It has been a week since I first enrolled The Last Dawn in KDP Select and it seems to be paying off! Throughout February, I kept seeing my ranking slip further and further into oblivion. As of Monday, my book sat at the #447,073; pretty depressing. I logged on to check my stats this morning and my book is currently sitting at the #6,034 spot! Now, today I do have The Last Dawn advertised as FREE for a Leap Day Special so I’m sure that has something to do with its ranking. Since midnight, 69 copies have been downloaded!!
Needless to say, I’m pretty stoked 🙂
Last week was pretty rough, I was sick and had absolutely NO energy to get out of bed! So glad to be back to normal but now my little man is sick. We made an unexpected trip to the er last night after he got home from his grandma’s. He was having an asthma attack and I was out of his medication. Turns out he had an attack because of bronchitis so now he’s taking breathing treatments (which he hates, even though he has a dinosaur mask), antibiotics and steroids. Having asthma at two is not fair for him, especially since he absolutely adores sports and can’t stop running around. He’ll get to play, though, but it’s going to be a little more difficult than it should 😦
Saturday night was our annual February birthdays get together. Since me, my sister and my mom all have our birthdays, each a week apart, during February, usually we have a group party at the end of the month. This years wasn’t the craziest one we have had yet but it definitely was up among the top three! Since my sister finally turned 21 we’re able to take her in public which I haven’t decided if that is a good thing or bad thing yet! Ah, good times…
The Last Dawn is doing as I expected for my first novel. Not great but not horrible! As of right now, the paperback ranks #720,781 out of 8 million so that’s cool, I guess! Hoping that my upcoming blog tour at the end of March helps out a bit more. Just as a reminder, if you have read The Last Dawn, head over to Amazon and give it a review! The ebook edition is currently exclusive to Kindle for at least the next 90 days but you can still purchase the paperback on Amazon and CreateSpace!!
I think Spring arrived early in Texas this year which in my opinion is not a bad thing! But it does make me want to open all the windows and super clean the house… which I need to do!
I have been super sick all week and just now getting to feeling a little better. So this is just a checking in post and I’ll be back soon!
Plus, The Last Dawn is now exclusive to Amazon through the Kindle for at least the next 90 days! Amazon Prime members get the ebook version free and it’s still $2.99 or $5.99 for the paperback for everyone else! Get it here and spread the word!
Since I no longer work weekends at the portrait studio, I get to enjoy my Saturday mornings again. This morning I poured my kiddos their orange juice into sippy cups and the milk into their bowls of Apple Jacks. We sat down in the living room and turned on some cartoons. While I sipped on my coffee I watched them as they scarfed down their breakfast, it just made me really happy. All of those long hours at the studio meant that I didn’t spend any time with them. I left when they woke up and came home when they went to bed. I missed out on all of those simple little moments that most people don’t care about.
But when they start to fight, scream and pull each other’s hair, I kind of miss those long hours at the studio 🙂
I had an afternoon alone yesterday where I got to do my hair, paint my nails, listen to the music my fiance can’t stand. It was awesome. It also took me back, made me feel a little nostalgic for my teen years when that is all I did in my free time. But it also stirred something up inside. Something clicked and I sat down for three hours straight and wrote and wrote and wrote and wrote. That, too, was awesome. I have two book ideas in the beginning stages and what I came up with yesterday will fit perfectly in with my third idea. That third idea may take a year or two to complete but that’s okay. If it turns out how I expect it to, it will be worth the wait.
Tonight, the kids are spending the night with grandma which means I get to be relieved of my mommy duties for a bit. A friend is playing bass in a band that I like so my other friend asked me to go along with her. Since her boyfriend is out-of-town playing a show in Shreveport for Mardi Gras weekend, she doesn’t want to go alone. I don’t blame her, I wasn’t going to go if she wasn’t going 🙂
So, it looks like my rainy Saturday starts off with a morning of Apple Jacks and cartoons with the kiddos and ends with loud music, cold drinks and good friends. Sounds like a perfect day to me.
The dates are set for my Blog Tour – March 19-30th. Just waiting on a couple of the hosts to confirm that the dates will work for them. So far the blogs to host are as follows:
UPDATE: I heard today that my friend and her daughter who were involved in the vicious attack over the weekend are both doing okay! I don’t know a whole lot more right now but as long as I know that they are okay, I don’t care about the details!
When I was a kid, I loved Book Fairs. Not too often would I get to purchase anything but I loved going to them. My daughter, who is in first grade, loves them as well. She brought home a flyer today: It’s Book Fair Time! Of course she was excited and was already asking how many books I would let her buy. But when I read the flyer, I was disappointed. The book fair her school uses has went online! Her library will no longer be transformed into a giant book shop where she can dream about all of the books she wishes she could buy with her $10. Personally, I think it’s dumb but I guess I can see why they would do it. I’m sure it has to do with a money thing, I don’t know.
Lastly, I have decided to enroll The Last Dawn into Amazon’s KDP Select for 90 days starting Monday, February 20th. During that period, my novel will be temporarily removed from Smashwords so that it is exclusive through Amazon. This was my original plan before releasing my novel but for whatever reason, I decided against it.
Early this morning I logged on to FB and the first thing I see is,
“I hope you’re going to be okay D… I’m praying for you.”
Immediately my heart sank. I knew that she was due to deliver her baby girl this Wednesday and I feared that something had gone wrong. Maybe the baby came early and there was a complication. NEVER did I think what really happened could have happened.
While waiting on a response back from the girl who posted the status, I proceeded to check the local newspaper online like I do every morning. When I saw this headline, I instantly knew something horrific had happened.
“Pregnant Woman Found Shot in Car in Northeast Fort Worth”
I have known this girl for the last 12 years. We’ve been best friends, we’ve been enemies. We shared everything when we were younger, even fought over the same boy at one point. She was the first and only girl to ever hit me (I fondly remember that era and laugh about it now!) and one of the toughest women I know. She was the first girl I reconciled with after stupid petty drama because I valued her friendship more than wanting to be mad at her. Thank GOD she is so tough because she has survived!
The last update I received from her sister and mutual friends is that she and the baby are both in stable condition. She has another surgery scheduled for today but they are both ALIVE! What started off as the worst news I’ve received in a long time has turned into better news. When they are both out of the hospital, that will be the best news.
Keep them in your prayers.
